On July 4th 1776 the United States declared our independence from Great Britain.
Interesting fact: In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration.
What July 4th Means to Me
As I reflect on July 4th and what a great country we live in I can’t help but think that Thomas Jefferson would be let down by our current two-party Monopoly system of government. I’m talking about Democrat vs. Republican. It’s become more about party affiliation then voting for accomplished citizens. The intent of the U.S. Constitution was to have a system that is served by the people FOR the people.
More and more these days we have career politicians who are self-serving only, and what they say to get elected is far from what they actually DO once elected. I’ve seen this first hand and it disgusts me. I’m tired of career politicians and an election process that has striking similarities to “American Idol and “The Hunger Games”. Elections have become more of a popularity contest then anything else.
So as I look forward on this Independence week, I am committed to continuing to lead by example and I’m casting my vote in November not for any particular party, I am voting for individuals. Intelligent people who have meaningful accomplishments, are good citizens and have integrity. What will you do?
