Navy SEAL Sniper: An Intimate Look at the Sniper of the 21st Century

Navy SEAL Sniper is a revised, updated, and full-color edition of The 21st-Century Sniper.

The sniper is a battlefield threat second to none. Mastering the art of marksmanship is critical but is only part of what makes a Navy SEAL sniper. The modern sniper follows in the long line of warriors that have time and again faced the enemy alone. Snipers must be able to apply the craft in an urban environment or alone on a hostile mountain top with equal effectiveness. Today’s sniper has to not just leverage technological advances but have the foreknowledge to select the best rifle and gear for the mission. Increasingly, he must have the mental toughness to adapt to a constantly changing environment, gather intelligence, and truly act as a force multiplier.

In this in-depth look through the eyes of former Navy SEAL sniper instructor Brandon Webb and fellow Navy SEAL sniper Glen Doherty, the authors reveal the fundamentals of not just marksmanship, but the science of shooting, stalking, and camouflage, and how technological advances have changed the training and increased the effectiveness of the modern sniper. Including maritime, helicopter, and urban sniper operations, this updated edition also goes into detail on the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation of weapons and optics. From the basics like compensating for wind and bullet drop, to camouflage and placing yourself or your team in the best position to take a photo or pull a trigger, Webb and Doherty cover the critical elements that comprise the twenty-first century sniper.

My main goal for writing this book was to provide a forward looking “insiders” perspective of the sniper community. Plenty of books have been written on the topic, but only a select few have been written by actual snipers who understand the job. Imagine reading a book on medicine written by someone with no medical experience. I was also fortunate enough to have my best friend, and fellow SEAL Glen Doherty (KIA Benghazi Libya Sept. 11th, 2012) as a fellow author on the project. Without Glen this book would never have been finished. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for all the support.
